The Adventures of Bayou Billy Ad
by Rory
I found this advertisement on the back of an old Batman comic from 1989. Compared to most of the print video game ads from this era, this advertisement is one of the better designs. Konami was not afraid to show screenshots from their game even if they were nothing more than photos of a TV.
I have never played the game but I remember seeing it at Superior Video for rent many years ago. This video store had a game shelf made from an ugly garden trellis strewn with Christmas lights and plastic ivy. It was absolutely hideous but it was completely covered in game boxes. It was the perfect setting for a redneck adventure like Bayou Billy.
Bayou Billy features driving, shooting, and beat ’em up modes that change depending on the level. It even has digitized voice! In Game B the shooting modes actually use the NES Zapper, which is a nice feature for such an underutilized accessory.
